and we believe in the power of collaboration to create safer, trauma informed, and healthier communities. By partnering with key community stakeholders—including the District Attorney's office, law enforcement agencies for victims as needed, nonprofits, schools, colleges, and local community organizations—we ensure a holistic approach to support for individuals and families in need; and, additionally, are able to provide consultation, collaboration, and training to these organizations within the intersections of mental health and for victim advocacy and holistic care. These partnerships allow us to provide coordinated services, address complex challenges, and advocate for clients with an integrated network of resources. Together, we work to promote healing, justice, and long-term wellbeing for all members of our community.

specialties

our approach is pretty straight forward

You are our priority & here is our foundation

  • We are not in charge. We believe that the therapeutic relationship is built on trust, compassion, and that you know yourself best. We are here to guide and listen.

  • You get to show up in sweatpants or business casual - bring a coffee (or water or tea) - we will probably have all 3 because - we’re therapists.

  • Everyone has a seat at our table, ahem, sofa.

  • Speaking of furniture - we have the comfiest furniture, coffee bar, tea bar, and cozy offices with windows - nobody wants to feel that they are in a box.

  • Our clients - see results. We are consistently learning and believe in evidence and research based therapeutic modalities and trauma focused care. We carry a strong belief that the day we stop learning - is the day we need to find a new career.

  • Our founder operates this practice on an anti-racist, LGBTQIA+ affirming, and anti-ableism lens.

  • We can laugh sometimes, but, we can also sit with you while you cry, are confused, experiencing anger, challenge negative thoughts, or need a listening ear.

  • We are not expressionless and we are not slates with no personality. We are human beings in progress too who just happen to have a couple of degrees and a license.

  • We went to school. A couple of schools. For a long, long time. We don’t mean to humble brag - but.. we think you get it. In short, that TikTok you saw about “Chocolate is cheaper than therapy” - probably, but we know what we are doing.

  • We will engage with you and welcome you as you are. We promise not to sit and say “hmmm” “mhmm” “right yea” - we want it to be a 2 way conversation.

  • We believe that every, single person is different and we do not operate on a one size fits all approach. Each person brings strengths, goals, and needs to the table; we tailor our care to the person sitting in front of us.

  • We believe it is a privilege and feel honored to be able to sit with other human beings in their most vulnerable moments, ups, downs, milestones, celebrations, grief, loss, - and, provide the best therapeutic care in the Triangle - no matter where you are on this journey.

lndividual therapy is a form of therapy where a person meets one-on-one with a therapist to address emotional, psychological, behavioral issues that can stem from trauma, anxiety, life transitions and more. You may just need a listening ear or you may need to address self harm, learn how to set boundaries, or address recent or previous trauma. Everyone has a place in individual therapy. It allows for a personalized approach to understanding and resolving personal challenges through modalities such as cognitive behavioral therapy, EMDR, dialectical behavioral therapy, talk therapy, etc.

  • Group therapy involves a small group of individuals, typically led by a licensed therapist, coming together to discuss their shared lived experiences. It provides a supportive environment where participants can provide insights, feedback, and encouragement to one another. Group therapy fosters a sense of belonging and community.

Longleaf currently has 3 group offerings coming for Summer 2024:

Self Compassion for Millenials: Addressing Impostor Syndrome, People Pleasing, and Boundary Setting

    Survivors of Sexual Assault (18+)

DBT Skills for Teens Group (12-17)

  • Family therapy involves working with the family unit to improve communication, resolve conflicts, and work on interpersonal resolutions. It focuses on understanding the dynamics within the family system and how they contribute to individual and relational family concerns and needs. Sessions focus on individuals and their strengths and needs they bring to the family system.

Family therapy helps with adaptive ways of communicating, interacting, addressing unresolved conflict, boundary setting, and strengthening relationships.

This can be beneficial to any family but specifically to families experiencing divorce, various challenges, parenting concerns, substance use within the family, and major life transitions.

Longleaf Counseling does not currently provide reunification therapy or family therapy with an offending caregiver in child abuse/neglect cases. We can provide trauma informed care for victims/survivors and provide outside referrals for this area of specialty for reunification therapy.

The four roots of Longleaf

  • Trauma Informed

We recognize that many individuals seeking counseling have experienced trauma, whether in childhood, through a specific event, or as a result of ongoing experiences. Our therapists are trained to understand the impact of trauma on the brain, body, and relationships, and to integrate this understanding into every aspect of our work. By adopting a trauma-informed approach, we aim to create an atmosphere of safety, trust, and empowerment for our clients.

  • Person Centered

Central to our practice is the concept of person-centered care. We believe in the inherent worth and resilience of each individual and seek to empower our clients to be active participants in their healing process. We believe that mental health should be accessible to all individuals who are seeking treatment. Through empathetic listening, genuine understanding, a commitment to diversity and equity, and collaborative goal-setting, we strive to create a therapeutic partnership based on trust and respect for all who enter our doors.

  • Integrative

Our counselors draw from a variety of research and evidence-based modalities to tailor treatment to each client's unique needs. This may include Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness practices, and more. By integrating these approaches with our trauma-informed, person-centered foundation, we aim to provide holistic support that addresses the complex interplay of trauma, mental health, and overall well-being.

  • collaboration

In all our endeavors, we believe that we work better in numbers and that our client’s care is the center of all that we do. We are guided by a commitment to ethical practice, ongoing professional development, and a deep respect for the courage and resilience of those who seek our support. We seek to collaborate with psychiatry, primary care providers, other mental health providers, inpatient or residential treatment providers, community partners, and other members who are integral to your holistic well being and care.
